Repairing Chickasaw County Roads Damaged by Flooding Costs Over Quarter Million Dollars

Following rains August 17th and 18th totaling well over six inches, Chickasaw County Engineer Roman Lensing estimated some 100 spots on County roads that needed attention in the wake of flooding. At one time, that included 59 road closures.

It took about a week, but all 59 road closures were reopened to traffic, 56 of which Lensing said occurred by or before August 22nd.

On Tuesday (09.02), Lensing told the Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors it was a group effort.

Lensing added there’s still more work to do.

Which will add more to the estimated costs of the road-mending efforts, to date of over a quarter-of-a-million dollars.

Thus, Lensing approached Supervisors about a possible budget amendment to help cover the expense of the extra rock, a road they’ve been down before.

Supervisors made no decisions Tuesday, but the consensus was to supplement the Secondary Roads budget. It’s a question of which funding source they will utilize, which could be decided during a special meeting at 9 am Thursday (09.04) morning.
