Charles City Women Charged with Multiple Counts of Child Endangerment

A pair of Charles City women are facing felony child endangerment charges after they were accused of denying food to and physically abusing two children.

The Charles City Police Department says a traffic stop in the 200 block of 7th Avenue, just before 8 pm Friday (08.29) night, resulted in the arrests of 33-year-old Stephanie Henigan and 31-year-old Ariana Henigan. Both were wanted on Floyd County warrants charging them each with two counts of child endangerment causing bodily injury, Class D felonies, and two counts of aggravated misdemeanor child endangerment.

According to criminal complaints filed last Thursday (08.28), both women are accused of using a PS4 cord and/or clothes hanger to “whoop” the children on multiple occasions between May and August of this year. CCPD says the woman also failed to supply the children with adequate food, in some cases limiting the two children to sharing one pack of noodles per day.

The women also allegedly denied the children food despite having other food in the home, while preparing meals for themselves, going out for free popcorn, and entertaining strangers for money to use towards buying food.

Investigators say a physician diagnosed both children with severe protein malnutrition.

Warrants for the arrests of Stephanie Henigan and Ariana Henigan were issued on Friday. They are now being held in the Floyd County Jail with bail set for each at $14,000 cash, with 10% cash acceptable in the defendant’s name only.

They are both scheduled for preliminary hearings in Floyd County District Court next Monday (09.08).
