Four Candidates for Floyd County Supervisor Special Election; Absentee Voting Open

A fourth candidate has entered the special election to fill the District 2 seat on the Floyd County Board of Supervisors, now less than three weeks away.

Former District 2 Supervisor Dennis Keifer passed away in June and, in July, Josh Neupert was appointed to fill Keifer’s seat. Other candidates who applied included Doug Lindaman, David Bahe, Aaron Hobert and former County Treasurer Frank Rottinghaus.

Despite Neupert’s appointment, a petition of eligible voters in District 2 was filed to force the special election, now set for September 23rd.

The Floyd County Republican nominee is Neupert and Rottinghaus is the Floyd County Democratic nominee. However, non-party affiliated candidates could also get on the ballot with at least 50 names of eligible voters within District 2.

Hobert, a member of the St. Charles Township Board of Trustees, filed in mid-August to run independently. Lindaman will also run independently after filing nomination papers last week ahead of the 5 pm Friday (08.29) deadline with the Floyd County Auditor’s Office.

Ballots for the special election can only be cast by voters in District 2, which includes all of Charles City, north of the Cedar River, plus the part of St. Charles Township that is north of the city.

Neupert will continue to serve as the appointed supervisor and whoever wins after voting results are certified will serve out the remainder of Keifer’s term, which runs until the end of 2026.

Absentee voting is now open with in-person absentee voting in the auditor’s office beginning Wednesday (09.03) and ending September 22nd. The deadline for requests to have absentee ballots mailed out is September 8th.

Forms are available by written request to the Floyd County Auditor’s Office and on the Iowa Secretary of State website

All voting on election day must be done at the polling location, Trinity United Methodist Church (601 Milwaukee St.) in Charles City, with polls open 7:00 A.M. – 8:00 P.M.

Note: CC2 voters will vote with CC3 at Trinity UMC
