Lack of Police Officer Applications Frustrating for City of New Hampton

For about six months last year, the New Hampton Police Department was shorthanded by two and, sometimes, three officers.
Last December, the two open positions were filled. However, one of those officers resigned this past May. Applications to hire a replacement have been slow in coming in, a frustrating situation according to Mayor Bobby Schwickerath.
Schwickerath says hiring in general these days is a challenge let alone the law enforcement field.
Police Chief Tim Pederson says they had received only one application since the position opened up.
The City will continue to take applications for an NHPD officer until the post is filled.
