Almost Five Years Later, Floyd County LEC/Courthouse Project Declared Finished

The Floyd County Law Enforcement Center and Courthouse project reached several milestones Monday.

County Supervisors held their first meeting in the new boardroom that was once a garage. Chair Mark Kuhn said the move made good on a pair of promises back in January.

Part of that transparency also includes posting videos of completed meetings on You Tube.  It also means its almost time to reveal to the public the total cost of the LEC/Courthouse project, which Kuhn considers complete despite some minor items still to be finished or resolved.

Kuhn has directed County Auditor Gloria Carr to deliver a report on the project costs at their next Board meeting.

In 2018, voters approved a $13.5 million bond referendum for the project. LEC construction was largely wrapped up by February 2022, then the focus switched to renovating the Courthouse, built in1941.

Through various delays, the COVID pandemic and subsequent supply chain issues, the project’s final costs are estimated upwards of $20,000.

Also on Monday, the public entrance to the courthouse was moved from the old entrance on the northside of the courthouse itself to the glass atrium that connects the Courthouse and the LEC.
