Charles City Selected “Thriving Community,” Qualifies for Up to $2 Million in Tax Credits

Future housing development in Charles City got a $2 million shot in the arm Monday (08.14) when the Iowa Finance Authority announced Charles City as one of 11 “Thriving Communities” in Iowa.

Emily Garden is with the Charles City Housing and Redevelopment Authority. She says the City now qualifies for huge tax incentives to lure developers to build in Charles City.

Garden says the City had to have its own “skin in the game” as they target constructing apartments near Floyd County Medical Center.

Next is attracting developers to build in Charles City, which comes during the HousingIowa Conference next month in Cedar Rapids. She says its another opportunity to continue bragging on Charles City.

Garden adds that by qualifying for $1 million in both Iowa Workforce Housing and the Affordable Housing tax credits, Charles City can offer $1 million in tax credits to two development projects.
