New Hampton Tribe Trail Phase 3 Cost Approaches Three-Quarters of a Million Dollars

The price tag for Phase 3 of the TRIBE Trail in New Hampton is approaching three-quarter of a million dollars.

Phase 3 of the project that will connect the trail from Linn Avenue on the south side of New Hampton with the Chickasaw Wellness Center on the west side of town. Megan Baltes, Assistant Director with the New Hampton Economic Development, says estimates for construction continue to go up.

Also included in funds raised in recent months is a $50,000 hotel/motel capital projects award, a $100,000 Enhance Iowa CAT grant, and a $75,000 REAP grant from the Iowa DNR.

Baltes says they’ll seek bids for the project this winter, with construction to begin next spring.

In addition to fundraising, Baltes says another important piece of the trail puzzle came into place earlier this week when the New Hampton City Council approved the purchase of land along the route necessary for the installation of culverts to provide proper drainage for water crossings.
