Parks in western Floyd County were spared when the derecho of December 15, 2021 moved across north Iowa.
Floyd County Conservation Naturalist Heidi Reams says the parks were fortunate, but she knew from previous storm experiences to be on high alert that night a year ago.
Reams says she checked on friends in the Rudd area who were out of town the night of the tornadoes last December and she was amazed at how much damage she could see even after dark.
