New Hampton City Council Holds Public Hearing Monday (07.20) on Personal Transportation Device Ordinance

New Hampton residents can weigh in directly to the City Council Monday (07.20) during a public hearing on the growing problem of unsafe operation of electric bikes and electric scooters in City limits.

The increasing popularity of E-scooters and E-bikes has also increased the opportunity for accidents for riders, but also motorists and pedestrians.  Thus, the City is looking at a new ordinance to address the issue.

That’s Police Chief Conrad Rosendahl, who says the City also faces a challenge if and when an ordinance is put in place.

Spearheading that drive is Councilwoman Deb Larson, chair of the City’s Safety Committee.

Larson  adds there are many moving parts to a possible ordinance.

New Hampton isn’t the only municipality in the state dealing with the growing E-scooter/E-bike conundrum. Rosendahl says he opened a chat forum among other police chiefs seeking advice.

The public hearing will be held during the New Hampton City Council’s regular meeting starting at 7 PM Monday.

Written comments were also welcome at City Hall by 4:30 PM  Monday for consideration at the public hearing.
