Water level is around 5.8 feet at the Dubuque tailwater and slowly falling. Water temperatures will continue to rise with warmer weather in the extended forecast. The bite has picked up for many species. Call your local bait shops for the most current information.
- Black Crappie – Fair: Use a small jig and plastic combination or a live minnow rig in areas with woody structure.
- Bluegill – Good: The bite is picking up as water temperatures rise. Use a piece of night crawler fished under a bobber in marinas and backwater areas; anglers are catching many males guarding bedding areas.
- Channel Catfish – Fair: Use a night crawler or dip baits in areas with woody structure or shoreline riprap. Anglers are catching catfish with leeches fished near shoreline riprap. Some channel cats are being caught on wing dams as well.
- Flathead Catfish – Fair: A few anglers are having success on bank poles with live bait set overnight. Rod and reel anglers are reporting success using live bait in the tailwater area.

River level is 8 feet at Lansing and is expected to remain stable through next week. Water clarity is slightly stained. New Albin Army Road is open; construction to replace the north ramp and add a sidewalk will begin the week of June 8th and take three weeks to complete. The main road and the south ramp will remain open. **Reminder: Crews are working on the Blackhawk Bridge at Lansing. Boaters should use caution in the construction zone. Please slow down for everyone’s safety.

The upper Cedar, Maquoketa, Shell Rock, and upper Wapsipinicon Rivers are in good fishing condition with normal flow rates for this time of year. Water temperatures are in the 70s. Rainfall is in the weekend forecast and could impact river and stream conditions. Anglers are catching catfish, walleye and smallmouth bass on the Cedar River and Maquoketa River. Anglers are catching, crappie, bluegill, and largemouth bass on the lakes in and around Cedar Falls/Waterloo area and in Lake Delhi. Trout stocking scheduled for June 2026 at Dalton Pond has been canceled. A bridge used to access the trout fishing destination is closed due to structural deterioration. Iowa DNR has gathered cost estimates for bridge repair and replacement and is currently determining next steps at Dalton Pond. Local media outlets and this weekly report will be updated with developments. Dalton Pond is currently accessible only as a walk-in fishery. Trout stocking has not occurred at Dalton Pond since March 31.

Lake Darling Management District

- Bluegill – Fair: The warm water sped the spawning season to a quick close. Most bluegills have moved to deeper water (6 – 7 feet). Use a worm and bobber or try vertical jigging (if you are quiet).
- Largemouth Bass – Fair: Bass wrapped up the nesting season quick this year with 77 – 78 degree water. Most adults are out in deeper water.
Iowa River (Columbus Junction to Mississippi R) (Louisa)
- Ramp Condition: Useable
The river came down about another 6 inches last weekend and has held pretty steady at just about the average level for this time of year.
- Channel Catfish – Good: Catfishing using minnows or green sunfish as bait around the brush piles has been good. The bite picked back up after the water level stabilized.

- Ramp Condition: Useable
The spraying of the curly-leaf pondweed at the lower end of the lake and around the campground boat ramp and jetties has knocked it back in those areas. If you like to fish those beds, there are still plenty of it at the upper end of the lake.
- Black Crappie – Slow: Slowly troll down the old creek channel or along the edges of the flooded trees at the lower end of the lake.
- Bluegill – Fair: Most bluegill have left the edges of the weed beds in shallower water. Look for them over top of the mounds and along the edges of the deeper weed beds.
- Largemouth Bass – Fair: A few bass are still on the nests; most have finished up and moved off to deeper water to rest.
- Water Temperature (°F): 75.0
- Ramp Condition: Useable
Most of the planktonic algae from last week is gone. Water still has a little green tint. Water clarity is just over 4 feet.
- Black Crappie – Fair: Most boat anglers are out over the cedar trees in the middle of the lake (10 – 14 feet deep); same place as they ice fish for them during the winter. Use a slip bobber and minnow.
- Bluegill – Good: Bluegills are done spawning for this round. Look for 7.5- to 8.5-inch males Shallowes in 4 feet of water on the brush piles or rock piles along the shoreline. Most females are out in deeper water.
- Largemouth Bass – Fair: Nesting season wrapped up last week. Lots of clouds of little 1 – 1.5 inch bass in the shallows in the weeds or the rocks. Adults have moved out on the rock piles in 6 to 8 feet of water or the outer edges of the brush piles.

- Ramp Condition: Useable
The water still has a green color, but no surface “scum” of planktonic algae. Water clarity is just under 4 feet.
- Bluegill – Fair: Adult bluegills have moved to the habitat in 8 to 10 feet of water. Lots of little bluegills from this last spawn are swimming around in the shallows. Try vertical jigging over top the habitat with a 1/64 or 1/80 th ounce jig tipped with a red worm or waxworm.
- Largemouth Bass – Fair: Most bass have left the nests as the fry are big enough to be on their own.
- Ramp Condition: Useable
Weed beds are fully developed and topped with filamentous algae.
- Bluegill – Fair: Some males are still on the nests; many to most have finished up. Expect this round of spawning to wrap up soon. Work the habitat in 4 to 6 feet of water using worm and bobber or small jigs.
- Largemouth Bass – Good: Fewer males are still on the beds; that number is going down fast. Still work the outer edges of the deeper weedbeds for males, especially in the early morning or just after sunset.
