Northeast Iowa Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Allegedly Firing at Peace Officer

A Northeast Iowa man, arrested last month for allegedly trashing his mother’s home, is facing multiple felony charges after he was accused of firing at a deputy following a pursuit over the weekend.
The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) received a 911 call around 7 PM Sunday (05.17) night from a home in Lansing about a man assaulting a woman inside the residence. By the time Lansing Police and an ACSO deputy arrived, the suspect had already left the scene. When a deputy attempted to stop the suspect’s car, the driver continued at a high speed and a pursuit began
The suspect eventually turned into a field drive, where the deputy tried to stop the car. The suspect allegedly fired at the deputy and the deputy returned fire. After the gunfire exchange, the suspect ran into a wooded area. Authorities searched for the suspect for several hours but could not find him.
A family member brought the suspect to the Sheriff’s Office on Monday (05.18) morning and 29-year-old Andrew Weber of Lansing was arrested for attempted murder of a peace officer and second-degree kidnapping, both Class B felonies; felony eluding, and two counts of assault, both serious misdemeanors.
Weber is being held in the Allamakee County Jail on $500,000 cash-only bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 28th in Allamakee County District Court.
Other agencies helping with the investigation included Waukon and Postville police departments, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DCI, Iowa DNR, Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, Waterville Fire Department, Lansing Ambulance Service and Allamakee County Emergency Management.
Court records show Weber was arrested April 27th on a charge of second-degree criminal mischief, a Class D felony, after he trashed his mother’s home, the same residence involved in the assault report on Sunday. ACSO says Weber’s action may have been substance oriented, with his mother and girlfriend stating that Weber uses cocaine. He allegedly caused between $1,500 and $10,000 in damages.
