North Iowa Woman Pleads Not Guilty to Charges After Allegedly Walking into C-Store Naked, Covered in Blood

A north Iowa woman has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges after she allegedly walked into a convenience store naked and covered in blood.

Mason City Police (MCPD) say 32-year-old Cheri Decker of Mason City entered the Casey’s at 813 North Federal Avenue in Mason City about 9:30 am on December 19th, nude and covered in blood. In the store, she’s accused of knocking over a shelving unit and breaking glass bottles from the shelves as well as throwing items at employees. She also allegedly slapped a customer and a store employee with her bloody hands.

MCPD says Decker also covered multiple consumable items and product packages with blood that had to be destroyed. Due to the amount of blood in the store, on products and food machines, the business was forced to close and had to pay for a professional cleaning crew. Damages and cleaning costs were estimated at over $10,000.

About four hours later, MCPD was dispatched to the MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center ER, where Decker was accused of spitting on a security guard and “acting in an assaulting manner” while hospital staff attempted to get her under control. That led to a charge of disorderly conduct, a simple misdemeanor, for which she faces a non-jury trial July 6th in Cerro Gordo County District Court.

Warrants for her arrest were issued following the incidents and Decker was apprehended January 6th by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office.

On Monday (02.09), Decker entered a not guilty plea to first-degree criminal mischief, a Class C felony; assault causing bodily injury or mental illness, a serious misdemeanor; plus simple assault and disorderly conduct. No trial date has been set.

Decker is free awaiting trial after she posted a surety bond of $6,000 on January 28th to be released from the Cerro Gordo County Jail.
