Messiah Food Pantry in Charles City Changes Operators

The transition has begun for what has been known as the Messiah Food Pantry in downtown Charles City.
After almost 20 years, Messiah Lutheran Church Pastor Debra Lincoln announced in December she would be retiring. It was also announced the Northeast Iowa Food Bank (NEIFB) would take over local operation of the food pantry to continue serving families facing food insecurity.
Among those involved is Jen Burton, who says they officially began operating the pantry as of February 1st, with no notable differences.
Burton, who’s worked with NEIFB for many years as coordinator of the Charles City Mobile Food Pantry, says the same eligibility requirements apply at what will eventually become the Floyd County Food Pantry.
She’s also learning that monetary donations can have a real impact on helping to continue the mission .
