New Hampton Man Facing Drug Trial In January Arrested on New Drug Charges in December

A New Hampton man, scheduled for trial this month on drug charges, is facing new drug charges following his arrest last month.
According to court records, the New Hampton Police Department arrested 55-year-old Ricky Ohm following a traffic stop about 9:30 pm on December 27th. After a positive alert on Ohm’s Chevy Tahoe by the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit to possible narcotics inside the SUV, a subsequent search allegedly recovered a rectangular case with two clear baggies containing about seven grams of methamphetamine.
Ohm has been charged with a controlled substance violation, a Class B felony; failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a Class D felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is slated for a preliminary hearing in Chickasaw County District Court January 15th.
Court records show that Ohm is currently scheduled for trial January 14th in Buchanan County District Court for possession of meth and drug paraphernalia, charges stemming from an investigation by West Union Police on August 18th. According to the criminal complaints, after Ohm returned to the West Union Residential Treatment Facility, his urine sample tested positive for meth and Ohm allegedly admitted to smoking meth three days prior.
A clear baggy with meth was also found in the vehicle that was driven to bring Ohm back to the facility, plus text messages on his phone indicated he was trying to buy and sell drugs. All of which violates his parole for his 2021 conviction for ongoing criminal conduct-unlawful activity, a Class B felony.
Court records also show Ohm with previous convictions for third-degree burglary and lascivious conduct with a minor.
