Road Crews Work Long Hours During First Storm for Winter ‘25-26

The first snowstorm of the winter season didn’t disappoint in terms of snowfall totals, including at least 11 inches in the New Hampton area.

Chickasaw County Engineer Roman Lensing told the Board of Supervisors Monday (12.01) that the secondary roads crews put in back-to-back 12-hour days clearing snow.

Some snow removal efforts resulted in a few “casualties.”

Supervisor Jacob Hackman acknowledged the tough job road crews had to tackle.

Other area snowfall totals over the weekend included over 12 inches in Elkader and Fayette, 10 inches at Forest City, nine inches for Charles City, Nashua, Clear Lake, and Nora Springs, plus eight inches at Saint Ansgar and Cresco, and seven inches at Decorah.
