New Hampton Street Department Looks for Parking Cooperation During Snow Removal

The City of New Hampton is asking residents to help them clear streets by clearing their vehicles off the streets during snow removal.

With snow in the forecast for the Thanksgiving weekend, Street, Water and Sanitary Collection Superintendent Kyle Anderson says, “We all know winter is coming soon, and with winter comes snow and ice and plowing and snow blowing. Not parking on the street during winter weather events and snow removal operation times would be very helpful for crews to clear the streets and ensure they are safe.”

Anderson adds that “vehicles parked in the roadway make our job more challenging and it’s also against code.” He notes that if vehicles are left on the street while they’re plowing, they will be in contact with New Hampton Police, which could result in parking tickets for violators.

The City offers these Snow Reminders:

To avoid a $25 parking fine do not park on City streets between the hours of 6 pm on the day of said snow fall until 7 am the following day or until the streets have been completely plowed from curb to curb.

It is the property owner’s responsibility to remove snow, ice, or accumulations within 48 hours of the snowfall from sidewalks.  When removing the accumulations it is unlawful to place them onto the street or alley, except in the Business District. If the accumulations are not cleared the City may do so and assess the costs against the property owner.
