Vendors Now Have Official Path to Sales Stands in Charles City

Vendors seeking to put up temporary sales stands along the streets of Charles City now have an official path to possible approval.

Earlier this year, a third-party vendor sought approval for a seasonal flower sales stand in downtown Charles City. In studying the issue, the City learned there wasn’t an official permit application for such ventures.

That’s City Attorney Brad Sloter explaining the permit application form the City Council considered for approval during their meeting Monday (11.03) night.

Councilwoman Phoebe Pittman made the motion for approval of the form to strengthen the previous system that only called for “written permission.”

Councilwoman Krista Noah had reservations on sales stands in general.

Councilman Phillip Knighten supported the sales stand concept, as long as applicants mesh with Charles City businesses already in place.

The sales stand permit application form was approved on a 3-1 vote, with Noah voting NO and Councilman Patrick Lumley not in attendance.
