Area Firefighters Battle House, Grain Bin, Vehicle Fires Tuesday (11.04)

Area firefighters battled house, grain bin and vehicle fires Tuesday (11.04).
A candle is the apparent cause of a house fire in Charles City, according to Charles City Fire Chief Sam Deverell, who says they received a fire call shortly after 7 pm Tuesday, with emergency personnel dispatched to 301 Blunt Street. Fire departments from Colwell, and Floyd also responded to the fire.
Charles City Police, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, Floyd County Search and Rescue and AMR Ambulance were also on scene.
No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
Deverell says the cause of the fire was a candle, but thanks to the caller that reported the fire and the quick response by the emergency responders, firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and contain the fire to the area of origin.
New Hampton firefighters responded to a grain dryer fire Tuesday morning. Crews successfully suppressed the fire prior to emptying the dryer and opening it up to extinguish all hotspots. Chickasaw County EMS was also on scene, standing by during firefighting operations.
Also Tuesday morning, the Rockford Fire Department was dispatched to a vehicle fire near the intersection of 7th Street Northwest and West Main Street. The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene and reports a 2001 Buick LeSabre was a total loss after the fire started under the hood of the car.
There were no injuries reported.
