New Hampton Residents to Experience Water Interruption During Fire Hydrant Replacement

New Hampton residents should be prepared for possible interruptions to the water service.

The City of New Hampton is advising residents that multiple fire hydrants will be replaced over the next 30 days. During this time, your water service may be temporarily interrupted for short periods, with residents encouraged to check their water before use to ensure it is flowing properly.

Street Superintendent Kyle Anderson says a total of 13 hydrants are being replaced, including two that were damaged by vehicle accidents. He estimates replacement costs average about $8,000 per hydrant, including parts, rock and blocking, and labor, with the work done by Blazek Corporation of Lawler.

Anderson adds that the project was budgeted for in advance and also notes that nothing lasts forever and things need to be replaced to assure good water service.
