More Than a Dozen Apply for Charles City City Administrator Post

More than a dozen candidates have tossed their hat in the ring to become the next city administrator for the City of Charles City.
In May, former City Administrator Steve Diers announced he would depart after over 11 years with the City to take the same position with the City of Clear Lake. After Diers finished in June, the City contracted Dan Gifford to serve on an interim basis. Gifford worked as city administrator in Spencer before he retired and has said he has no interest in the position full-time.
The deadline for applications was last Wednesday (09.3), with the final tally of 14 applications received, according to City Clerk Brittney Lentz.
Mayor Dean Andrews says the next step is trimming the candidate pool.
The City Council will meet in special session at 5 pm Monday (09.08) in the EOC Training Room of the Floyd County Courthouse. After continued discussions on the possible Lane Street railroad crossing closure and a review of forgivable loan agreement with Curbtender, the Council will go into closed session with Hinson Consulting to determine which candidates will advance to the Zoom interview round on Wednesday (09.10).
The City hopes to have the new city administrator start in November.
