One Person Dead, Five Hurt in Two-Vehicle Weekend Northeast Iowa Crash

One person is dead and five others injured following a two-vehicle weekend crash in northeast Iowa.

The Iowa State Patrol (ISP) says the wreck occurred in Bremer County at about 1:30 pm Sunday (08.24) afternoon at the intersection of County Roads C-33 (190th St.) and V-43 (Piedmont Ave.), just south of Tripoli. According to the crash report, two pickup trucks collided after one of them ran a stop sign.

ISP has identified the victim as 41-year-old Lungawia Chalthleng of Urbandale, a passenger in the pickup that failed to stop. A second passenger, from Des Moines, was airlifted to North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. The driver, 51-year-old Hming Chunga, and a third passenger, both from Des Moines, were taken by ambulances to Allen Hospital in Waterloo. 

Two people in the other pickup, 83-year-old Marvin Drewis and 82-year-old Trivona Drewis, both from Waverly, were also transported by ambulance to Allen Hospital.

The extent of their injuries wasn’t released.

The Bremer County Sheriff’s Office, Denver and Sumner ambulances, Readlyn and Tripoli fire departments, and DNR Conversation also responded to the scene.
