Charles City City Council Meets Wednesday (08.13) Night to Consider Applicants for Open Council Seat

Three people have submitted their applications to be considered for appointment to an open seat on the Charles City City Council.
The City of Charles City is looking to appoint a successor to Keith Starr, who vacated his council seat with his resignation July 31st.
Those wishing to toss their hat in the ring for the appointment had to submit an application by noon Monday (08.11). City Clerk Brittney Lentz says three applications have been received, including Jeff Otto, Krista Noah and Ryan Boehmer.
Lentz says all three candidates will be interviewed in open session during a special City Council meeting Wednesday (08.13) night, starting at 6 pm in the Zastrow Room of the Charles City Public Library.
Whoever is appointed will serve as a City Council member until the November 4th general election. However, that person would have to run for office to retain the council seat beyond that.
Even with an appointment to fill Starr’s vacant council seat, any eligible voter in Charles City could file a petition to force a special election, which must be submitted within 14 days of the appointment.
