Work on Northbound 218 Near Waterloo Resumes Thursday (08.07)
If you drive on northbound U.S. 218 through Waterloo you need to be aware of a closure of the roadway that may slow down your trip.
The New Hampton Construction office of the Iowa DOT says crews will begin work Thursday (08.07) on the second stage of the construction project which involves deck joint repair on the northbound lanes of the U.S. Highway 218 bridge over U.S. Highway 63, about 3.5 miles north of U.S. 20 in Waterloo.
Northbound U.S. 218 (exit 181B) will be closed, and you will be directed to follow a marked detour route using northbound U.S. 218 and exiting at Fletcher Avenue/Ansborough Avenue (exit 182). You’ll then drive on Fletcher Avenue until you reach the southbound U.S. 218 on-ramp, turning off on the southbound U.S. 218 exit ramp (exit 181), and then turning onto southbound U.S. 63.
Message signs will be placed along U.S. 218 before you reach the work zone to notify motorists of the project, which is targeted for completion in early November, weather permitting.
