Charles City Police National Night Out Provides Interaction with Officers

To promote positive police-community partnerships, the Charles City Police Department (CCPD) hosted National Night Out Tuesday (08.05) evening in Central Park.

CCPD officer Duane Ollendick says it’s an opportunity for the public to meet police in a relaxed setting among activities including bounce houses, pedal cars, face painting, pictures with a cop, and water ball with the Charles City Fire Department. Activities also included giveaways of 250 free backpacks with school supplies and over 300 kids received free shoes.

Ollendick says some kids want to do more than just talk to an officer.

Ollendick says many adults expressed their appreciation for the event and the officers who serve the community.

Similar Night Out events were also hosted Tuesday night by the Cresco Decorah, and Mason City police departments, as well as the Worth County Sheriff’s Office.
