Floyd County Supervisors Reflect on Passing of Fellow Board Member

The Floyd County Board of Supervisors met for the first time Tuesday (06.17) since the passing of Supervisor Dennis Keifer.

The 73-year-old Keifer died June 10th after suffering a stroke.

First-term Supervisor Boyd Campbell reflected on his colleague and friend he used to ride the school bus with as kids in Rudd. Campbell said joining Keifer on the Board was a reunion of sorts.

Fellow Supervisor Gloria Carr was still the county auditor when Keifer became a supervisor in January 2023.

During the public comments portion of the meeting, audience member Scott Larson reflected on his conversations with Keifer.

Keifer was named Board Chair in January and was the most senior member of the Floyd County Supervisors. He was elected to the District 2 Supervisor seat in November 2022.

Floyd County can appoint a replacement or hold a special election to fill Keifer’s seat, with his term running until the end of 2026. Even if an appointment is made, eligible voters in District 2 could file a petition within 10 days of the appointment to force a special election to fill the position.
