FCMC $40 Million Expansion On Track, Cancer Center Coming, Goats Eating

A $40 million dollar expansion project at Floyd County Medical Center (FCMC) continues on track.
FCMC Director of Marketing and Community Engagement, Mackenzie McNeill, says construction, which includes a new clinic, passed 40% completion earlier this month.
It’s the largest expansion of the Charles City hospital since it was built in 1965, but officials aren’t planning on stopping there.
FCMC recently won their court battle for the estate of Herman Stille, a successful farmer in Chickasaw County, who left $10 million to the hospital to establish a cancer center in Charles City.
McNeill says FCMC has been preparing for the favorable outcome.
And while the new additions are in the works, McNeill says the goats are still working to help maintain current grounds on FCMC property.
FCMC, Driftless Rock Farm, and Goats On The Go brought the goats in to clear out overgrowth to areas adjacent the hospital. They began eating their way around May 29th. They were initially expected to be here between 10 to 14 days, but McNeill says (as of Wednesday) they’re still here, currently working in the area behind patient parking.
