City of New Hampton Monitors Takedown of Dead, Dying Ash Trees

The City of New Hampton is reminding property owners with diseased or dying ash trees within city limits that the deadline to take down those trees is fast approaching.

Public Works Director Casey Mai recently told the City Council that the number of properties with trees in need of removal, which stood at 83 last September, has been cut down by over half.

Mai said if the property owners don’t have the trees removed by July 1st, the City may have to go out for bids to contract with a professional tree service to take care of the remaining trees.

Two years ago, the City of New Hampton hired Wilson’s Custom Tree of Cresco to take down about 200 ash trees dead or dying due to Emerald Ash Borers in City right-of-ways for about $200,000.
