Charles City Council to Hire Search Firm to Find Next City Administrator
The Charles City City Council will again hire a search firm to help hire its next city administrator.
On May 19th, the Clear Lake City Council approved the appointment of Steve Diers as its next city administrator, while the Charles City Council officially accepted Diers’ resignation as their city administrator.
Wednesday (05.21) night, the Council met in special session to begin laying out their path to finding his replacement. As the Council weighed three search firms, Mayor Dean Andrews noted it’s not the City’s first go-round to get outside help in the hiring process.
Andrews recalled other prior challenges that led to the hiring of Diers.
The Council unanimously approved the proposal presented by Hinson Consulting, a firm familiar to Diers.
The preliminary proposal puts the cost of Hinson’s services at almost $19,000, with a timeline that would have a new city administrator in place for Charles City no later than November 1st. In the meantime, the Council will consider options for an interim city administrator after Diers’ departure.
Diers’ last official day with Charles City will be July 4th, though his last day in the office will be June 20th. He’ll begin work in Clear Lake on July 7th.
