NIACC to Launch New Aviation Professional Pilot AAS Degree in Fall 2025
North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) has announced the launch of its new Aviation Professional Pilot Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree, set to begin in the fall of 2025.
This innovative program will provide students with the knowledge and hands-on training needed for successful careers in the aviation industry.
Part of NIACC’s Skilled Trades Division, the five-semester curriculum combines classroom instruction at NIACC with hands-on lab and flight training at the Mason City Airport. Delivered in partnership with North Iowa Air Service, headquartered in Charles City, the program offers students a comprehensive educational experience, covering essential topics such as aerodynamics, flight operations, navigation, and aviation safety.
Todd Kyle, Owner/President of Charles City Aeronautics, says, “North Iowa Air Service is thrilled to partner with NIACC. My grandfather began this business in 1957 teaching people how to fly in North Iowa. We are thrilled to continue and expand that tradition with NIACC. We look forward to working with them to grow and expand this program for years to come.”
Laura Wood, Dean of Agriculture and Skilled Trades at NIACC, adds, “This program is an incredible opportunity for students passionate about aviation to turn their dreams into reality.By offering both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, we’re setting our graduates up for success in one of the most exciting and rewarding industries out there.”
Students will gain critical certifications and real-world flying experience, preparing them for a wide range of aviation careers, including private and commercial piloting, flight instruction, and other specialized roles within the industry.
Enrollment for the program is now open, with classes set to begin in August 2025.
