Charles City Officials to Discuss Strategy to Hire New City Administrator

The City of Charles City will begin setting the wheels in motion this week on how they will proceed in hiring a new city administrator.
The City of Clear Lake announced Friday (05.09) that current Charles City City Administrator Steve Diers has officially accepted the same post with their City, pending formal approval by the City Council at their next meeting May 19th. If approved, Diers will begin his role as Clear Lake City Administrator on July 7th.
Diers was one of three finalists for the position, which also included Ron Dunt, city manager for the City of Hampton, and Jacob Widman, Finance Director & Director of Administrative Services for the City of Clear Lake. Widman is also Clear Lake’s Acting City Administrator.
Diers posted on his personal Facebook page Friday evening, “Lots of mixed emotions to be sure. Charles City has been our home for the last 11+ years and we love the community and all the friends we’ve made along the way. The elected officials, city staff and community partners are all wonderful and together we’ve worked to do some very good things in the community. Now it’s on to the next challenge.”
Charles City Mayor Dean Andrews says the City Council will talk over what their next steps will be to find Diers’ successor during their planning session Wednesday (05.14) evening.
Andrews says, “Of course we hate to lose Steve as part of our City team, but we appreciate all of the things he has done in his 11 years in Charles City, and wish him the best in his journey with Clear Lake.”
Diers has been Charles City’s city administrator since March 2014.
