Iowa DOT Projects to Affect Travel in Mason City, Clear Lake Area

A pair of road construction projects will impact motorists traveling in the Mason City/Clear Lake Area, according to the Iowa DOT’s Mason City construction office.

The DOT says, starting Wednesday (03.12), crews will close the on/off-ramps on Interstate 35 at the 4th Avenue South interchange (exit 193) in Clear Lake so bridge work in the outside lanes of I-35 can take place. The on-ramp for northbound I-35 and the off-ramp for southbound I-35 at Exit 193 will be affected.

Motorists will be directed to follow a detour when driving in either direction, with the ramp closures and detour routes expected to be in place through Memorial Day, weather permitting.

Slated to begin next Monday (03.17), weather permitting, crews will close U.S. Highway 65/South Federal Avenue between 6th Street South and 19th Street Southwest so work can be done on the roadway. The contractor will work from north to south and open segments of the roadway as they are completed.

You will be able to access businesses along the closed route by using side streets and city alleyways. Some sections of South Federal Avenue/U.S. 65 will remain open to local traffic while construction work takes place elsewhere on the roadway.

Detours (see map) are expected to remain in place until November 25th or when the roadwork has been completed.
