Roads Crews Also Battle Road Conditions Caused by Blizzard

Due to the blizzard conditions Wednesday (03.05) morning, the Floyd County Secondary Roads Department pulled snowplows off the roads at about 8:30 am, according to new County Engineer Adam Miller.

Miller says crews were able to return to clearing roads at about 10:30 am, though travel was still not advised with visibility about a quarter-mile.

Chickasaw County Sheriff Ryan Shawver notes a big difference in travel out in rural areas compared to driving in New Hampton.

Shawver also offers this caution if you travel and should happen to get stuck or stranded.

Pete Hjelmstad with the Mason City office of the Iowa DOT says they’ll be out working on the roads….as long as it’s safe for them to do so.

While travel is being discouraged this morning, Hjelmstad advises those who must travel to check road conditions BEFORE you head out at www.511ia.org, download the 511ia app or call 511.
