Unable to Serve, Chickasaw County Veterans Affairs Coordinator Serves Veterans

While he was unable to serve in the military himself, Keith Elenz is now helping other veterans.

Elenz is the Chickasaw County Veterans Affairs Service Officer and was the featured speaker at the Veterans Day ceremony Monday (11.11) in New Hampton hosted by American Legion Fae Stine Post 38.

Elenz told the crowd in front of the Chickasaw County Courthouse he compares veterans to the stars of the night sky.

Medical issues prevented Elenz from joining the military, but American Legion Post Commander Brian Quirk applauds Elenz for his service to vets, including helping with pension and disability claims as well securing benefits for military members and their survivors.

Pastor Paula Hemann, related to about a dozen military family members herself, also addressed the crowd.

The annual American Legion Fae Stine Post 38 Veterans Day Dinner is this Sunday (11.17) at The Pub at the Pinicon in New Hampton and is open to the public. Serving is from 4 to 7 pm, with proceeds from the drive-through or dine-in meal helping fund American Legion community service projects.
