Man Who Caused School Lockdown in Charles City Facing Multiple Charges

A North Iowa man who caused a “soft lockdown” at the Charles City elementary school last week is facing multiple charges.
Charles City Police say a series of incidents began when officers responded to a disturbance in the 1700 block of Clark Street, shortly after 1:30 pm Thursday (10.03) afternoon. Upon arrival, one subject, later identified as 29-year-old Stone Adams of Riceville, was leaving the scene in a vehicle. Police attempted to stop Adams’ vehicle, but he turned down College Avenue before parking and fleeing on foot.
After a short foot chase, Adams was arrested on charges of first-degree burglary, a Class B felony, and domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor, plus obstruction of emergency communications and interference with official acts, both simple misdemeanors.
According to court documents, Adams is accused of breaking into a female victim’s residence and then punching and kicking the woman. During the alleged attack, Adams also prevented her from calling for help. When he was being apprehended, Adams allegedly refused to comply with their commands and he was tasered to be subdued.
During CCPD’s foot pursuit of Adams, he headed in the direction of Immaculate Conception School on Clark Street, forcing the school into a “soft lockdown,” which Police Chief Hugh Anderson said was done “out of an abundance of caution for the safety of students and staff.”
Adams was taken into custody at the IC ball diamonds just southeast of the school and the lockdown was lifted.
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with apprehending Adams.
