North Iowa 16-Year-Old Rescued From Water After Medical Emergency
A North Iowa 16-year-old had to be rescued from the water Saturday (08.03) after he suffered a medical emergency.
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) says the juvenile, from Clear Lake, was fishing near the dam of the Shell Rock River in Nora Springs when he suffered an unspecified medical emergency and fell into the water. A 33-year-old man, reported to be a local resident who was with a group of friends just getting on the water for a river float, then dove into the water to rescue the boy and brought him up the river bank to the shore.
The injuries to the 16-year-old were unknown at the time, but he was airlifted to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City as a precaution.
According to a post on the Nora Springs Farm & Fire Facebook page, the boy’s parents are Sara and Jordan Banks.
Sara Banks tells KCHA/KCZE News that her son was released from the hospital and was able to return home about 6 pm Monday (08.05) night. She’s also grateful to the man, plus a woman in his group, for saving her son’s life.
FCSO Deputy Chad Weber and Banks say the man who rescued the boy wishes to remain anonymous at this time.
The emergency call came in shortly after 5:30 pm Saturday, with the Nora Springs Fire Department, Mason City Ambulance, Iowa State Patrol and Mercy AirMed also responding to the scene.
