Highway 3 Bridge Replacement in Waverly to Start Monday (08.05)

A northeast Iowa bridge replacement project, delayed largely by Mother Nature, is set to begin Monday 908.05).
The Iowa DOT had originally targeted construction work to start July 1st to replace the Iowa Highway 3 bridge over the Cedar River in Waverly. However, flooding in late June led to high water levels for the Cedar in Waverly and the project was postponed.
Pete Hjelmsatd with the DOT’s Mason City District Office says delays are always factored into the construction timeline.
Work on the Highway 3 bridge replacement in Waverly will continue during the winter months when possible. A completion date by the Fall of 2025 is anticipated, weather and river level permitting.
The project is one several delayed by the elements this construction season. Flooding for three weeks, plus high water levels prior to that, held up construction of a new bridge over the Mississippi River at Lansing from early June to mid-July.
High river levels also suspended work for a few weeks on the Iowa Highway 14 bridge replacement near Roseville and the U.S. Highway 18 bridge replacement near the Ionia turnoff, with both now back to works in progress.
Hjelmstad says the Highway 18 bridge is scheduled for a deck-pour Tuesday and should be open by mid-September. The Highway 14 bridge at Roseville is on schedule to open in October.
