New Hampton Baseball Coach McDonald to Add AD Duties

Just over a month after it was announced that New Hampton High School Activities Director Scott Frerichs was stepping aside, his successor has been officially hired.

During the February 19th School Board meeting, it was revealed that Frerichs would step down as AD, pending the hiring of a suitable replacement. Filling that post will be Cory McDonald, who’s also the Chickasaws’ varsity baseball coach, a position he has held since 2009.

McDonald was officially approved as AD during a special School Board meeting Tuesday (03.26) night.

While Frerichs is shedding the AD title, he said he will go back into the classroom full-time and continue as the Chickasaws head football coach, as he has for the past 31 years.

Frerichs noted that, over the last years, with teaching responsibilities in the morning, working as the AD in the afternoon, and covering all home events when he was not coaching football, he found that he had spread himself too thin. He added that each of those jobs requires more time than he is able to give under the current circumstances.

McDonald, who’s served on the New Hampton City Council, did not seek re-election with his term expiring December 31, 2023.
