First Council Meeting for New Hampton Mayor Geerts Mostly Organizational

Last week’s New Hampton City Council meeting was the first session presided over by new Mayor Steve Geerts.

A former New Hampton Fire Chief and former Chickasaw County Supervisor, Geerts says he’s begun adjusting to his new role of offering suggestions and guidance to the City Council.

With his first Council meeting under his belt, Geerts says he’ll also be reaching out to the various department heads in the coming weeks and diving into the budgeting process for fiscal year 2024-25.

Geerts replaces former Mayor Bobby Schwickerath, who held the Mayor’s office from January of 2020 through December 2023.
