Suspects in Michigan Murder Apprehended in North Iowa

A pair of suspects in a Michigan homicide have been apprehended in north Iowa.

The Clear Lake Police Department (CLPD) says it was contacted Tuesday (12.19) evening by the Houghton County (Michigan) Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), requesting CLPD assist with a murder investigation.  HCSO says it believed 50-year-old Margaret Kempainen and 20-year-old Jacob Kempainen were currently in the Clear Lake area.

The Kempainens, both from Hartland, Wisconsin, were also considered armed and dangerous. They were located and detained without incident at a local gas station about 30 minutes after CLPD had been notified by Michigan authorities.

The Kempainens were booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail, where they await extradition back to Michigan.  Each faces one count of homicide.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, and the Garner Police Department assisted with the investigation.
