Motorists Adjusting to Charles City’s “Mill Race Parking Lot”

The “Mill Race Parking Lot” in downtown Charles City has now been open for over a month-and-a-half.

The project closed off regular through-traffic from the corner of Main Street and Riverside Drive to the corner of Jackson and Clark streets, to which Charles City Police Chief Hugh Anderson says motorists are still adjusting to.

If you do happen to cut through, Anderson reminds drivers that the speed limit is no longer 25 mph.

Changing the street to a parking lot is expected to make the area safer for pedestrians and created some 50 additional parking spaces.
