Alabama Woman Pleads Guilty in Charles City AssaultÂ

An Alabama woman has agreed to plead guilty to a reduced charge for her role in a Charles City assault over six months ago.
According to court documents, 39-year-old Sametra Perkins of Greensboro, Alabama, is accused of assisting her boyfriend, 34-year-old Laron Martin of Selma, Alabama, in attacking another “clearly unconscious†male on May 6th. She allegedly stomped on the victim while Martin punched the man, causing several facial fractures and a concussion. Charles City Police say the assault was caught on video.
Perkins was apprehended in Alabama and returned to Floyd County in early November. She was originally charged with willful injury causing serious injury, a Class C felony, but Monday she pleaded guilty to assault causing serious injury, a Class D felony. Her sentencing is now set for January 22, 2024, Floyd County District Court.
Martin, who was accused of hitting the victim in the side of the head, picking him up, and slamming the man face-first into the ground, also pleaded guilty to assault causing serious injury. He’s been sentenced to three years of supervised probation. Â
