New Hampton Mayor Schwickerath Faces Two Opponents

New Hampton Mayor Bobby Schwickerath is being challenged by two candidates in his bid for re-election.
Schwickerath was elected Mayor in 2019 and took office in January of 2020, shortly before the COVID pandemic hit.
Schwickerath says he’s hopeful for a second term to continue work on major City projects, including a new water treatment plant.
Opponent Melanie Schmitt has spent 15 years on the City’s Board of Adjustment, but has not held an elected office before.
Schmitt says she’ll offer a steady hand in the Mayor’s office, if elected.
Also on the ballot Tuesday (11.07) is former New Hampton Fire Chief Steve Geerts, also a former Chickasaw County Supervisor
Geerts also established Geerts Plumbing and Heating in New Hampton, which he sold to his son 13 years ago.
If he’s not re-elected, Schwickerath’s current term expires December 31st.
