Almost Five Dozen Wind Turbines Up for Chickasaw County Wind Farm

Almost five dozen wind turbines now line the landscape of northern Chickasaw County.

When complete, the Chickasaw Wind Energy Center will include 66 wind turbines in all. The project is now owned by MidAmerican Energy, which purchased the wind farm in June from Chicago-based Invenergy, which is still involved in construction.

MidAmerican Development Project Director Jared Noack says they hoped to have 58 of the non-operating turbines erected and fully installed by the end of Friday (11.03). That would leave another eight yet to be constructed, which should be accomplished within the next couple of weeks. All weather permitting.

Noack adds that testing of wind turbines could begin later this month, but more likely early December, with the wind farm expected to go online by the end of the year.

MidAmerican also owns over 50 wind turbines on 16 acres south of Charles City.

In August, both Invenergy and NextEra addressed the Floyd County Board of Supervisors about the development of separate wind farms calling for the erection of over 150 wind turbines combined. Both companies are targeting areas from Floyd and Rudd towards Rockford and Marble Rock, near the Floyd-Butler County line .

Landowners in the area of the proposed wind projects have lobbied Supervisors to put a moratorium on their development until the County ordinances regulating their construction can be updated.
