Charles City’s Quade and Max Take Home Top Street Award

A Charles City High School senior and her steer have taken one of the top awards in the Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer Show at the Iowa State Fair.
Charles City FFA Chapter President Taylor Quade and her steer, Max, won the People’s Choice Award Saturday in Des Moines. Quade was assisted in presenting and showing off Max to the crowd by 2022 State Fair Queen Mary Ann Fox of Osage. They were sponsored by the Friends of Floyd County.
Other area representatives in the Governor’s Steer Show included Andrew Matthias and his steer, Louis, from Fairbank/Fayette County, and Nadine Klaffke and her steer, Goose, from Alden/Franklin County.
The event raised $501,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Iowa. Including this year’s donations, the Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer Show has raised almost $5.5 million since the event’s inception in 1983.
