A Chickasaw County man has died after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street.
According to the Iowa State Patrol crash report, a car driven by 85-year-old Edmund Emerson of Cedar Rapids was eastbound on Highway 18, west of Falcon Drive in Fredericksburg, when the vehicle hit a pedestrian in the roadway. 78-year-old Jerome Leach of Fredericksburg was killed by the collision shortly before 5 pm Tuesday afternoon.
The Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office, Chickasaw County EMS, and Fredericksburg Fire and Rescue also assisted with the incident, which remains under investigation.
