Repairs Illustrate Need for Upgrades to Charles City Swimming Pool
It was two weeks ago (o6.23) that a portion of the concrete basin of the Lions Field Swimming Pool had come off, forcing the pool to be shut down.
The pool had to be drained slightly to perform the repair work and then filled again before use. However, when the area to be patched was larger than first expected, the pool remained closed the entire day.
Charles City Parks and Recreation Director Tyler Mitchell says it’s one example of the challenges to keeping up the 30-plus-year-old pool.
At their June meeting, Mitchell says the Park-Rec Board decided to seek a bond referendum to pay for about $3 million in pool repairs and upgrades.
Mitchell says the Park-Rec Board hopes to make their pitch for the measure to the City Council later this month. The Council would then have final say whether to put the bond referendum before voters.
