Charles City, Floyd County, AMR Sign Ambulance Contract

Floyd County, the City of Charles City, and now, AMR Ambulance, have all signed a new contract for service effective July 1st.
The County and the City have a joint agreement with the private ambulance service provider that expires June 30th in which they split the current fiscal year cost of $200,000 to subsidize AMR’s operating expenses. The new three-year contract calls for that subsidy to jump to $415,000 for the first year with a 3% increase in cost each of the following years.
Friday (06.23), City Administrator Steve Diers announced that AMR has signed the new contract. Sill, the hope is to pursue a new public ambulance service in the County.
The new Chickasaw County EMS department began ambulance service January 1st and was put together in less than four months. The City of Nashua is also expected to launch its own ambulance July 1st. Both used ARPA money to help fund their startups.
An EMS tax levy is being pursued for a possible City/County ambulance in Floyd County, with the measure likely to be put before voters again this November. An EMS tax levy failed in last November’s general election.
Charles City and Floyd County will get help in the subsidy payment from Floyd County Medical Center, which has committed $100,000 in fiscal year 2023-24.Â
