Chickasaw County EMS Takes Possession of Third Ambulance

About two months ahead of schedule, Chickasaw County has taken possession of its third ambulance.

The purchase of the ambulance, for about $205,000, was approved by the Board of Supervisors in May and wasn’t expected to be delivered until August.

Chickasaw County EMS Director Joel Knutson says the rig arrived on Monday, June 19, and it appears that, after approval of the purchase, the County got moved to the top of the list by the seller. He notes that it still will be August before the third rig goes into service, most likely by the time it gets wrapped with the EMS logo and is stocked with the necessary medical supplies.

The County will base the third ambulance in Fredericksburg. (If you are interested in joining the Fredericksburg crew, send a message through the Chickasaw County EMS Facebook page.

It’s one of the latest developments for the new County-run service that went into operation January 1st. Earlier this month, Supervisors approved the purchase of property at 204 East Prospect Street in New Hampton to provide an official home for their new EMS department and its two New Hampton-based ambulances.

The property was bought from Jeremy McGrath, the County’s previous private ambulance service provider for about $350,000, with the closing date for the sale set for July 31st.

The County currently rents garage space from the City of New Hampton on South Locust Avenue next to the police station to house its two operational ambulances.
