Timberrrr! Charles City Awards Contract to Remove Ash Trees

The City of Charles City took two more steps towards bringing down a rash of ash trees either on City-owned property or in the right-of-way killed by the emerald ash borer.

During their regular meeting Monday night, the City Council approved the borrowing of over $500,000 to speed up the process of removing trees that Councilman Phillip Knighten noted have become dangerous.

City Administrator Steve Diers says they won’t get all the trees removed with borrowing the money, but it should put a good dent in the problem.

The Council approved a contract for just over $200,000 to GDB & Sons for the first phase of bringing the ash trees down.
