Lifeguard Shortage Reduces Hours for Charles City Swimming Pool

A continued shortage of lifeguards means reduced hours of operations at the Lions Field Pool in Charles City, at least to start the summer.

The City says the pool is planning to open on Memorial Day. After that, it will be Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 to 5:30 pm until more certified lifeguards are hired.

In addition to the regular pool hours, Park-Rec Director Tyler Mitchell says they also need lifeguards for morning swim classes and lessons.

Mitchell says even part-time lifeguards will help to fill in the gaps.

Mitchell adds that the City will pay for half of the costs for one’s CPR certification training. Anyone 14 or older can apply for a cashier position at the pool concession stand.

Find more info on the Lions Field Pool Facebook page or contact the Park-Rec office.
